The following list of 218 grants totals $19 million for performances, presentations, commissions and educational programs taking place in New York State over the next year, and in a few select cases over the next two years. Also, included are projects that reach a diverse range of New York communities through radio and other media.

171 Cedar Arts Center (Corning) $20,000
To support the Inclusive Choir Project, presenting a series of concerts performed by the Womens Chorale of 171 Cedar Arts in collaboration with a group of adults with developmental disabilities.

651 Arts (Brooklyn) $135,000
For the International Blues Festival, a series of concerts, symposia, workshops and film screenings with community partners exploring the blues with gospel traditions, jazz and the music of West Africa.

92nd Street Y (New York) $85,000
For the Jewish/Muslim Collaboration Series, Jewish Composers Quarterly series and a Beatbox Festival incorporating commissions, accompanying lectures and 40 Caf Music events.

Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts (Blue Mountain Lake) $19,000
To support the 2007 Performance Series showcasing eight concerts of popular, folk and world music at affordable prices.

Afrikan Poetry Theatre (Queens) $75,000
For the Music Roots Project designed to deliver instrumental and vocal training to students at PS 42 and IS 109, and expose them to the rich, diverse musical culture of New York City through musical skills development and performance seminars.

Alarm Will Sound (Rochester) $21,000
To support the In Your Ear 2007 festival, presenting new compositions, techno remixes, improvisation and arrangements of pieces from a variety of styles and genres such as electronica, chamber music and fusion.

Albany Symphony Orchestra (Albany) $120,000
For Music Lives in the Visible World, presenting contemporary concert music to audiences in the Capital Region through the American Music Festival featuring eight commissioned pieces and 16 new short works; the Classical Concert Series with four world premieres; and for the Music Alive Residency with four different composers.

Albright-Knox Art Gallery (Buffalo) $50,000
For World Music Live! a community-based multicultural program of free concerts by local musicians in a variety of styles such as Indian music, rhythm and blues, Cajun bluegrass, hip-hop, punk, grunge and emo; workshops for children and young adults; and performances of regional music students.

Alianza Dominicana (New York) $180,000
For the Dominican/Haitian Living Music Media Project including three concerts featuring musical forms such as bachata, merengue, and rara; and a compilation CD of these performances and archival recordings.

Alliance for Downtown New York (New York) $125,000
To support the River to River 2007 festival presenting 46 free public concerts featuring pop, classical, experimental, jazz and Latin musicians in mostly outdoor downtown Manhattan venues.

Alliance of New York Arts Organizations (Mattituck) $115,000
For online courses and a blog for New York State musicians, composers, performers to learn how to distribute and promote their music online, protect themselves in the marketplace, and enhance their skills at making a living through music.

American Composers Forum (St. Paul) $200,000
For the production of 20 new CD recordings by New York State artists, sponsorship of statewide tours, and the donation of almost 2,000 CDs from the Innova label to 30 educational and public libraries across the state.

American Opera Projects (Brooklyn) $25,000
For a series of concerts in Brooklyn of The Summer King, with music by Daniel Sonenberg and libretto by Daniel Nester, in collaboration with The Weeksville Society and Brooklyn Institute Technical High School.

Americas Society (New York) $80,000
To support as part of part of the Music of the Americas 2007 cycle, 15 contemporary Caribbean and Latin American concerts and lectures in Manhattan and Queens.

Apollo Theater (New York) $90,000
For the presentation and recording of Gods Trombones by Craig S. Harris, a composition for trombones, voice and movement inspired by religious trombone shout bands.

Archive of Contemporary Music (New York) $250,000
To support the New York Music Index and Archive, an online, on disc and physical resource focused on popular music produced in New York State that will catalogue information on musicians, recordings, and sectors of the support industry (e.g., labels, music publishers, managers, venues, distributors, retailers and rights organizations).

Arm-of-the-Sea Theater (Malden on Hudson) $12,000
For a series of free public performances throughout the eastern half of New York State in collaboration with different local partners showcasing music by Dean Jones, Juan Basilio Sanchez and the Big Sky Ensemble in a number of shows of the companys repertoire.

Arts & Cultural Council for Greater Rochester (Rochester) $90,000
To support technical assistance, professional development opportunities and promotional and networking tools to musicians in the 10-county Greater Rochester region, including legal advice on contracts and basics of intellectual property; and courses in Web design and marketing.

Arts Center and Theater of Schenectady (Schenectady) $225,000
For the Dangerous Music Project, a two-year residency by the vocal ensemble Floom showcasing a live performance series with artist dialogue, as well as educational workshops in the regional school districts of Schenectady and Troy, and community organizations like The Hamilton Hill Arts Center and The Boys and Girls Clubs.

Arts Council for Chautauqua County (Jamestown) $115,000
To support the presentation of 35 artists in 15 concerts and festivals with outreach by a consortium of presenters, and for the audio/videotaping and live broadcast of performances on the Councils radio station throughout the rural Chautauqua area.

Arts Horizons (Englewood) $65,000
For the Works in Progress, a project serving approximately 750 students from low-income areas in Brooklyn through artist residencies in Songwriting, Hip-Hop and Play the Recorder, each culminating in live performances.

Arts in Education Institute of Western New York (West Seneca)$95,000
For Needed: More Than the Basics, a contemporary music performance that will be commissioned and produced by the Institute, presented to school children and community members in the western New York region, and include professional development for teachers and teaching artists partnering in classrooms.

ARTSwego (Oswego) $95,000
For commission and presentation of a multi-media work by Richard Einhorn based on Charles Darwins The Origin of the Species, performed by the Eastern European womens chorus Kitka.

Asia Society (New York) $100,000
For the commission of the Tibetan Book of the Dead by Philip Glass and statewide performances of Kinsmen/Svajanam by Rudresh Mahanthappa, to be performed and recorded with saxophonist Kadri Gopalnath.

Asian American Arts Alliance (New York) $65,000
To support Soundfest: Asian Americans in Music, an all-day outdoor Pan-Asian music festival in September 2007 showcasing the diverse genres of contemporary Asian American artists, from eclectic pop to fusion mixes to traditional forms.

Bang On A Can (Brooklyn) $95,000
For the 2007 Bang On A Can Marathon, featuring over 12 hours of free music by ensembles, bands and soloists from around the world in an eclectic range of genres, presented collaboratively with the World Financial Center.

Bard College/Bard High School Early College (Annandale-on-Hudson) $100,000
To support the expansion of contemporary music education through artist residencies that will include performances, workshops and classes open to community residents and students; and for creating a new after-school music program.

Bardavon 1869 Opera House (Poughkeepsie) $195,000
To support 36 performances of contemporary music in Poughkeepsie and Kingston through the Bardavon/UPAC Mainstage Series, the Bardavons Hudson Valley Philharmonic Symphony Concert Series, and the free Hudson River Arts Festival.

Bargemusic (Brooklyn) $90,000
For the commission and presentation of new works by six contemporary composers for the 30th anniversary season that will offer free and discounted concerts.

Foundation for Dance Promotion (New York) $50,000
To record original music by Daniel Bernard Roumain composed to accompany the choreography of Bill T. Jones, and present a free concert in Harlem to launch its release.

Binghamton Philharmonic (Binghamton) $61,000
To commission and perform a new work by composer Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez, who will also serve as composer-in-residence for the 2007-08 season, focused on exploring classical music from Latin America.

Boys Club of New York (Harlem) $100,000
For the Music School, offering 6-20 year olds comprehensive music education including lessons in a variety of acoustic and electronic instruments as well as music technology and band ensemble, training in technique and theory, and numerous performing opportunities.

The Brecht Forum (New York) $52,000
To commission and present new works by nine artists at Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center in Buffalo, at the Hudson Opera House and in New York City; to produce podcasts of the concerts for wider distribution; and to support additional outreach activities such as pre-concert talks.

Bronx Arts Ensemble (Bronx) $180,000
For the Pathways Project, an initiative providing music instruction and applied music education to public school youth in low-income communities, collaborating with seven elementary and middle schools in the South Bronx and University Heights area and three recently opened high schools.

Bronx River Art Center (Bronx) $85,000
For the June Jubilee Performing Arts Festival, presenting an ensemble or orchestra performing new site-specific compositions created by Laura Andel, Ricardo Arias, Randy Johnston and Papo Vazquez reflecting impressions of the Bronx River.

Brooklyn Arts Council (Brooklyn) $95,000
For the Brooklyn Maqam festival, featuring concerts reflecting the range of music from the Arab world in a variety of venues such as BAM Caf, Joes Pub, Alwan Center for the Arts, Brooklyn Historical Society, Kingsborough Community College, Brooklyn Public Library, and Arab coffee shops and restaurants.

Brooklyn Conservatory of Music (Brooklyn & Queens) $200,000
To support Music Reach, a broad range of musical activities and offerings to increase education in music of our time collaborating with over 30 participating schools and community and child care centers.

Brooklyn Information & Culture (Brooklyn) $100,000
To support Celebrate Brooklyn 2007, featuring the North American premiere of South African composer Philip Millers Rewind, and showcasing a series of new commissions, free performances and television cablecasts by established and emerging musical artists.

Brooklyn Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra (Brooklyn) $100,000
For the presentation of new and contemporary orchestral and chamber music by emerging and established New York-based composers performing in alternative concert venues, including a free concert in Prospect Park.

Brooklyn Youth Chorus (Brooklyn) $100,000
In support of From Vision to Voice, a music education series reaching 250 students through weekly classes, master workshops, and the commission of seven new works with 10 community performances.

Buffalo Alliance for Education (Buffalo) $65,000
For a series of workshops throughout Buffalo Public Schools in collaboration with local organizations to teach children songwriting.

Buffalo Niagara Convention & Visitors Bureau Foundation (Buffalo) $90,000
For a series of monthly programs that will bring New Orleans and Louisiana musicians and bands to Erie and Niagara counties to perform in concerts and participate in middle and high school music programs, in partnership with the Erie-Niagara Regional Partnership, Music Is Art and Community Music School of Buffalo.

Capital District Celtic Cultural Association (Albany) $42,000
For a community music education program to teach Scottish piping, drumming and Celtic music to youths and adults through a series of classes and workshops, and for a series of concerts featuring Celtic bands.

Caramoor Center for Music & the Arts (Katonah) $500,000
For the Latin American Music Initiative, focusing on the exploration of Latin American traditions through commissions by Marco Granados and Paquito DRivera, who will also be composer-in-residence; radio broadcasts of live-recorded festival performances; and outreach to Latino communities through free concerts at partnering venues.

Caribbean American Sports & Cultural Youth Movement (Brooklyn) $32,000
For a series of concerts performed by the CASYM Steel Orchestra throughout Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan, with special outreach to senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

Carnegie Hall (New York) $125,000
For four performances dedicated to new music, two at Carnegie Hall and two at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, showcasing six pieces from the pool of works commissioned in the 2006-07 concert season.

Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine (New York) $225,000
To support the creation and statewide tour of Songs of the Spirit, a multicultural, interfaith concert combining contemporary popular music and spoken word performances with compositions based in the musical influences of diverse faiths and cultures.

Catskill Mountain Foundation (Hunter) $100,000
For the year-round Music on the Mountain, presenting an eclectic lineup of concerts in genres from classical to folk to jazz, in partnership with various local arts organizations.
Catskills Symphony Orchestra (Oneonta) $30,000
For concerts featuring American folk music in collaboration with the Susquehanna String Band.

Center for Creative Education (Stone Ridge) $130,000
For the collaboration with the Kingston City School District to utilize the Carnegie Library building for teaching music and music technology through training in digital composition, sound recording, podcasting, video music production, and acoustic instrumental music; and as a rehearsal space for music and dance ensembles.

Center for Puerto Rican Studies  Hunter College/CUNY (New York) $380,000
To support the Puerto Rican Roots and Beyond Music Project, a collaboration with community organizations in New York, Buffalo and Albany to document, present and reinterpret the folkloric expression of the four genres of Puerto Rican music: bomba, msica jbara, danza and plena.

Center for Traditional Music and Dance (New York) $135,000
To expand the Peruvian and Chinese Community Cultural Initiatives by offering youth classes and implementing ensembles for advanced students in Jackson Heights and in Chinatown; and to create the Ukrainian Cultural Initiative.

Central New York Community Arts Council (Utica) $60,000
For the Sabor Latino (Latin Flavor) project, presenting 11 performances by the Paul Carlon Octet with Carlons original compositions to be offered by teaching artists as units of study to the 12 schools, K-12, in the Utica City School district.

Central New York Jazz Arts Foundation (Syracuse) $25,000
To support performances, a CD recording, and a streamed version of the performances on the organizations website highlighting the work and music of jazz artists of Central New York.

Chamber Music America (New York) $250,000
To support six New Music Institutes throughout the state for New York presenters, ensembles, and freelance musicians to learn marketing, audience outreach, and presentation techniques for engaging and increasing audiences for new music; and for a web-based Guide to Presenting New Music to be made available on CMAs website.

Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (New York) $90,000
To support the 2008 American Music Festival focused on contemporary chamber music by American composers juxtaposed with established classics, traditionalists to experimentalists.

Chenango County Council of the Arts (Norwich) $65,000
For presentation of community concerts and interactive educational activities by five contemporary musicians including Grupo Greg Ribot, Ethel and Bob Halligan Jr. of Ceili Rain.

Circuit Productions (Brooklyn) $30,000
For Rhythm Journeys, free and low-cost concerts showcasing jazz and world music throughout New York State in locations such as Narrowsburg, Long Island, Pelham, Brooklyn and Queens in collaboration with local cultural institutions and public libraries.

Citizens Advice Bureau (Bronx) $100,000
For the Bronx Roots/Routes Music Education Project providing sequential music instruction in genres from the African Diaspora to 320 children in after-school programs through residencies with professional musicians.

City Lore (New York) $75,000
For Worldbeat, a series of long-term residency programs in traditional music, in collaboration with two Queens elementary schools and the World Music Institute offering school concerts, fieldtrips to community sites, and culminating performances by the students.

City Parks Foundation (New York) $200,000
For City Parks Concerts, Central Park SummerStage and the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival presenting 68 free outdoor pop, jazz and contemporary concerts reaching 225,000 people in diverse neighborhoods and venues.

Columbia University  The Center for Jazz Studies (New York) $300,000
For the Columbia/Harlem Jazz Project, a two-year series of 14 jazz events and post-performance talks featuring artists such as Paula West, Eddie Palmieri, Olu Dara and George Lewis performing at the Schomburg Center, the Studio Museum in Harlem, Mintons Playhouse and venues on campus.

Commission Project (Rochester) $58,000
To support two school-based interactive music residencies for underserved students, especially those with learning disabilities, featuring professional musicians sharing folk traditions around the world and teaching students to build and perform on African xylophones.

Community Action Organization of Erie County (Buffalo) $125,000
To support Music is Critical, offering instruction focused on instrumental music, vocal music and production, dance and theater, and musical theater with a cultural/historical context as well as opportunities to create, produce and perform original works.

Community Works (New York) $85,000
In support of harlem isMusic: Ladies Singing the Blues, including presentation and documentation of a history of Harlem ladies who sing the blues with an all-star blues jam session and a performance by Gloria Lynne.

Concerts Artists Guild (New York) $50,000
For New Music/New Places, a series of concerts in a variety of styles in non-traditional spaces across the state such as Islip, East Meadow, Poughkeepsie, Beacon, Brooklyn, Pawling, Meredith, Cooperstown, Chautauqua, Utica and Rhinebeck; and for related educational activities.

Crandall Library (Glen Falls) $90,000
In support of 10 interactive concerts of 15 folk and classical musicians showcasing the characteristics of their genres, to be presented in Glens Falls and two rural libraries in the heart of the Adirondacks and in a farming community in rural Washington County.

Create (Brooklyn) $55,000
For a music education project in partnership with high schools to teach students how to compose original songs, and record and release a CD of their work.

Cunningham Dance Foundation (New York) $190,000
To support eight weeklong site-specific residency programs and performances rooted in modernist dance, music and visual art in partnership with Dia: Beacon and Bard College with artists such as Shelley Burgon, Todd Reynolds, Miguel Frasconi and John King.

Da Capo Chamber Players (New York) $35,000
For a series of mini-festivals in Elmira, Syracuse and Brooklyn to celebrate contemporary chamber music through concerts, improvisational workshops, chamber music salons and open rehearsals with composers in collaboration with many different local organizations.

To commission and perform three composer/choreographer collaborative works by Chris Forsyth and Miguel Gutierrez, Kristin Norderval and Jill Sigman, and Andy Russ and Jordan Fuchs.

For the creation of a DVD highlighting the organizations music installations to be distributed free to high schools, libraries and universities across New York State.

Earlville Opera House (Earlville) $41,000
For the 2007 music series, presenting a range of artists in different music styles such as popular, world music and folk with specific outreach to Central New York counties by offering off-site performances at locations such as Norwich, Hamilton and Cazenovia.

East End Arts Council (Riverhead) $35,000
For Talking Drum, an outreach program teaching hand drumming to local teens in collaboration with local organizations and school districts.

Eastman School of Music  University of Rochester (Rochester) $31,000
For presentation and outreach of the Third Annual Women in Music Festival with five days of free concerts, featuring composer-in-residence Tania Len and the Rochester premiere of her works set to the poetry of writer Margaret Atwood.

For expansion to18 partnerships with inner-city Bronx, Manhattan and Brooklyn public schools that serve low-income students with an in-school music instruction program incorporating a wide range of musical genres that also includes professional development for teaching artists and involvement of whole school communities.

For the creation and performance of Mourning, a collaboration between Eiko & Koma and pianist Margaret Leng Tan.

El Museo del Barrio (New York) $175,000
For Summer Nights, featuring 10 free concerts, five dedicated to icons of El Barrio and five showcasing Latino alternative music with emerging bands and established artists; and for several free concerts to kick-off a new Heritage Folklore series.

El Taller Latino Americano (New York) $55,000
For Famosos Desconocidos (Famous Unknowns), concerts by New York City-based established and emerging musicians performing original music reflecting the diverse cultures of the Americas including Argentine folk, salsa, Punk Chamber, and Latin jazz.

Eldridge Street Project (New York) $140,000
For the Great Day Tour presenting various klezmer musicians at six venues in New York City, Poughkeepsie, Fredonia, Rochester and Buffalo along with an educational program for K-12 students and pre-performance audience dialogues.

Empire State Youth Orchestra (Schenectady) $100,000
For New Music for a New Generation, showcasing commissioned works and composer residencies for each of ESYOs five ensembles and two full orchestras culminating in the a festival to be held in March 2008 when the commissioned pieces will be performed.

Ethos Percussion Group (New York) $25,000
For performances, and production and distribution of a CD documenting four works for percussion by John Hollenbeck, Susie Ibarra, Lukas Ligeti and Dafnis Prieto.

Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts (Queens) $100,000
To support New Voices/New Dimensions 2, a series of performances, commissions and linked educational and community engagement activities at Flushing Town Hall by emerging and established contemporary composers of jazz, classical music, world music, and musical theater/cabaret.

Future of Music Coalition (DC) $250,000
For an initiative to inform New York State musicians and citizens through statewide forums and internet resources about key arts and media policy issues related to supporting an open and fair marketplace for creativity and cultural diversity such as payola, media consolidation, copyright and emerging technologies.

Garth Fagan Dance (Rochester) $125,000
To restage Life: Dark/Light with live music from the Billy Bang Septet at various venues including the Athena Performing Arts Center in Rochester and the Joyce Theater.

Genesee Valley Council on the Arts (Mt. Morris) $43,000
For Strong as Steel Residency, a year-long instruction program in steel band performance delivered in collaboration with Mt. Morris Central School.

Glimmerglass Opera (Cooperstown) $90,000
To support a landmark revival of Philip Glasss chamber opera Orphe that premiered in 1993, with special outreach to audiences in rural counties in central New York.

Greenfield Review Literary Center (Greenfield Center) $26,000
For the Ndakinna Native and Adirondack Performance Series featuring a variety of folk artists and Native composers, musicians and performers.

Hamilton Hill Arts Center (Schenectady) $53,000
To expand and enhance the music program featuring music and musicians of the African Diaspora, focused on reaching at-risk children living in poverty through key community collaborations.

Hamilton Madison House (New York) $15,000
To expand the Childrens Violin program targeted to low-income, immigrant Chinese children.

Harbor Conservatory  Boys & Girls Harbor (New York) $185,000
For the Latin Music Program annually serving over 300 students in the low-income communities of Harlem and the Bronx with comprehensive offerings including individual and group instruction, performance workshops and ensembles, student performances and summer intensive workshops.

Harlem School of the Arts (Harlem) $170,000
To expand the music education activities to more than 5,000 students by partnering with five public schools and through an after-school program, outreaching to African American and Latino students, featuring world, contemporary classical music and compositions with Latin, Middle Eastern and American roots.

Harlem Stage/Aaron Davis Hall (New York) $100,000
For Music at Harlem Stage to commission, develop and present work by four new artists; and the presentation of multiple artists for Habana|Harlem presented at different venues in collaboration with Syracuse University, SUNY Purchase, Alianza Dominicana, Fundacin Amistad, Jazz Gallery and Works & Process.

Henry Street Settlement (New York) $50,000
For Blurring Boundaries, in collaboration with Abrons Arts Center, a series of live performances to increase public access to experimental music of artists such as Electric Kulintang, John Zorn, Dave Douglas, Yuka Honda, Thurston Moore and Rashied Ali.

HERE Arts Center/Home for Contemporary Theatre and Arts (New York) $21,000
For the creation, development and performances of Red Fly/Blue Bottle, a staged song cycle composed by Christina Campanella about a world turned unfamiliar by the war, with special outreach targeted to senior citizens and military families in New York State.

Hochstein School of Music & Dance (Rochester) $100,000
For Project 20/21, a program celebrating contemporary music designed to increase community outreach through collaborative programming and a series of contemporary music workshops, master classes and public performances, in collaboration with the Eastman School of Music, WXXI and WGMC.

Hoff-Barthelson Music School (Scarsdale) $43,000
For the after-school music education outreach program, teaching emotionally disturbed children folk, world, popular, jazz and rock music through guitar, vocal technique, world drumming and percussion lessons.

In Collaboration (Long Island City) $75,000
For Bridging the Gap through Rap, a joint project with the New York State Literary Center to teach students at public schools and correctional facilities in New York City, Rochester and Monroe County to write and create hip hop music as well as gain an understanding of the current music industry and how to promote the works they create.

InterSchool Orchestras of New York (New York) $50,000
For the In Concert Program, an initiative in public schools for younger students with no prior musical training that includes a continuum of activities ranging from attending concerts to lessons to performance in an orchestra of a newly commissioned work.

Irish Arts Center/An Claidheamh Soluis (New York) $100,000
For the presentation of a concert performance by traditional Irish musicians, curated by scholar and performer Mick Moloney and filmed by Academy Award-winning public television director Paul Wagner for broadcast on New Yorks public television stations.

Islip Arts Council (East Islip) $22,000
For a series of free concerts throughout the year in various locations and communities in East Islip featuring a variety of music styles such as folk/blues, bluegrass, jazz and big band.

Ithaca College (Ithaca) $150,000
For Enduring Masters, a series of presentations showcasing older musicians such as Joan Tower, Billy Taylor, Jon Corigliano and Marian McPartland, performing and reflecting on aging and art for audiences and regional broadcast; and for special outreach to underserved rural elders in collaboration with a number of local organizations.

Jacob Burns Film Center (Pleasantville) $39,000
To commission from composer Randall Woolf a new work for solo violin, electronic sounds and video to be performed by violinist Jennifer Choi.

Jewish Museum (New York) $15,000
For SummerNights 2007, featuring a mix of live music, art and video screenings in a variety of musical genres ranging from Latin jazz to Klezmer-bluegrass to world music by emerging and well-known artists.

John Jasperse Company (New York) $48,000
