WESTCHESTER'S GREATEST HITS
at Tarrytown Music Hall
Presented by TRIBES HILL

We are proud to announce a very special performance at the Tarrytown Music Hall on Sunday, September 28, 2008. Tribes Hill, a lower Hudson Valley collective of singer-songwriters and their patrons, is producing a concert to celebrate some of Westchester County's finest regional artists. The event will showcase the talents of famous performers, songwriters, and composers who have called Westchester their home. Musicians from Tribes Hill and the lower Hudson Valley region will be performing songs that were written or made famous by a Westchester resident, past or present.  We believe we have developed an entertaining and educational program that is sure to please audiences of all ages.

Two extraordinary Westchester musical talents will be headlining the event. Sloan Wainwright will close the first set of the show with her enchanting contralto vocals. Sloan has been "a forerunner in the independent music scene long before it became hip to walk the road less traveled." She is an artist whose passionate work and extraordinary life have fused to burn a new definition for women in music. Born into a highly acclaimed musical family (she is youngest sister to Loudon Wainwright III, aunt to both Rufus Wainwright and Martha Wainwright), Sloan developed her own unique style while writing and performing throughout the Greenwich Village hipster scene. With seven impressive CDs to her credit and the countless ravings from fans, critics and fellow singer-songwriters, she has proven herself to be the consummate artist's artist.

Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams, perhaps our region's most recognized independent talent, will close the show. Originating from Sleepy Hollow, NY, they exploded upon the Hudson Valley music scene in 1998 with their debut CD release, "A Good Thief Tips His Hat." Their first recognized concert performance was at the home and offices of Tribes Hill, the historic Hammond House of Valhalla, NY. Over the last decade they have developed a fiercely loyal, all-ages following. They have been featured recently in Relix magazine, the New York Times, and on the CBS hit show, Joan of Arcadia. The band's charismatic live performances and whimsical blend of folk, rock, hillbilly and pop tunes have captivated audiences at festivals and music venues across the United States and beyond.

In addition, WFUV's Bob Sherman, notable New York radio host and founder of the program Woody's Children, will host the event. Each of the two sets will include a variety of songs performed by an individual artist, or a collaboration of Tribes Hill artists, including James Durst, David Goldman, Elza, Marc Von Em, Anthony da Costa, Susan Kane, Matt Turk, Fred Gillen, Jr., Marc Black, Judy Kass, Iris Cohen, Steve Kirkman, Glen Roethel and Eddie Denise.

The accomplishments of all of the artists participating in this event are too numerous to list. Some are recognized internationally, while others are just emerging on to the scene through local venues and coffee houses.  They are all independent musicians from our region who are members of the Tribes Hill music community.  This event will give them all an opportunity to share their talents with a much broader Westchester audience collectively.

The following notable musicians, singer-songwriters, and composers who have at some point in their life called Westchester County their home are examples of musicians whose work may be covered in the show: Lee Hays (The Weavers), Bonnie Raitt, Walter Becker (Steely Dan), Jerry Bock, Carly Simon, David Bromberg, Leslie West (Mountain), Paul Robeson, Aaron Copland, Samuel Barber, Don McClean, Cab Calloway, Chip Taylor, Steven Tyler and Joey Kramer (Aerosmith), Judy Garland, Yoko Ono, Jerome Kern and Linda McCartney.

Our objective is to educate our community about the rich musical heritage of Westchester in a fun and entertaining way, and at the same time to introduce the region to talented musicians living in their own backyard, many of whom they may not be aware. In addition, our program will be video-taped for viewing on select Westchester community cable stations and the internet following the event.

This project was made possible, in part, by the Arts Alive program of the Westchester Arts Council, with funding from the Decentralization Program of the New York State Council on the Arts.
