Urban H2O

Tribes Hill brings Julia Joseph and Milton to Urban H2O on Saturday, August 21st at the Beczak in Yonkers

Urban H2O presents Milton and Julia Joseph

Milton, the modern-day troubadour with the distinctive voice and one-name moniker, is the leader of a lively, rootsy collective known for their soul-stirring live shows. The folksinger has developed a grassroots following for the warmth and spontaneity of his live shows, with a playlist that includes traditional folk, blues and country songs with old time harmonies.  Earning comparisons to many of his heroes—Van Morrison, Nick Lowe, The Band—singer-songwriter Milton has distinguished himself with his unique voice and lyrics, a compelling mix of grit and grammar.

“He has the pitch and rhythm to carry the day, and his sophisticated lyrics keep listeners coming back for more.” The New York Times

“In a city glutted with noise-rock, post-drone, and electro-flash, you may have overlooked the catchy, honest folk of Milton and his band.  Redeem yourself; you’ll remember what got you so excited about the Dylan and Morrison tradition in the first place.” Flavorpill

Julia Joseph performs jazz, folk and blues wrapped in a rich, velvety alto that has a little crystal or a little grit on the top end, depending on what’s called for. Gifted with a natural musicality and expressive freedom, she is a magnetic and deeply moving performer who performs primarily her own material with an occasional cover.

Fans are often brought to tears by the beauty and honesty of Julia’s voice, both literal and figurative. The stories in her songs are poignant and universal, usually touching on very fundamental aspects of being human, living and loving.

Julia also does freelance work as a session vocalist and back-up singer. Her voice can occasionally be heard on the NBC hit comedy 30 Rock and she has, in the last year, become a permanent support player of the MILTON band. Check her website out at www.juliajoseph.com

Best Folk/Singer-Songwriter Album, 2008 Independent Music Awards, Popular Vote

“Her voice is always the bomb.” Paul Heck, Producer, Red Hot Records

“You will be blown away by the richness and maturity of her voice and the sophistication of her delivery. It contains traces of her heros –Nina Simone, Phoebe Snow, Janis Joplin – but it’s more than that. Julia was born witha musical gift beyond the scope of what most of us will ever develop. Not just a kick-ass voice, but deep musicality with a sense of joy and beauty.” Tylan Greenstein, Girlyman

The Urban H2O concert series was launched last October by the Beczak Environmental Center in collaboration with Tribes Hill.  Steps from the Downtown Yonkers Amtrak and MetroNorth station, and with ample free parking, the Center is a non-profit facility that presents exhibits and programs for all ages to raise environmental awareness and to encourage informed stewardship of the Hudson River, the Saw Mill River and the Bronx River.
